For as long as I can remember, Nick Sharratt has been my key inspiration. Over the years, I have collected a series of his books and magazines. As a child, I would spend hours of my time admiring and recreating his illustrated book covers, based upon the writings of Jacqueline Wilson. The Story of Tracy Beaker has always been a fond favourite of mine. The bold use of linework and brightly coloured illustrations remain distinctively clear in my memories. Although they may look simple on the outside, there is a great level of sophistication to his works. Everything is drawn in a precise manner. Their purpose is to engage and interact with children playfully. I credit his work in shaping my current illustration style and design identity. My love for drawing stemmed from these books.

Towards the end of 2019, I attended Nick Sharratt's 'Royal Draw-along' event at The Lowry in Salford. Children and adults of all ages were encouraged to draw and participate in this event. Sharratt provided a step by step walkthrough, into how he designs his characters, simplifying their forms into a series of lines and shapes. Every illustration was executed perfectly. He made everything look simple to draw. It was amazing to witness his work in person, especially the children's pure joy from watching him draw their favourite characters. It brought back happy memories from being a child. From this moment, I knew that I wanted to pursue children's illustration as a subject of interest in my work.
