As discussed in a previous post, I had been working on some branding concepts for the business called 'Lunar Vinyl'. Since creating my logo, I've been developing a series of brand guidelines for the business. The purpose of these guidelines is to give the brand consistency and communicate how it should be perceived, if recreated. Tomorrow, I'll be presenting these guidelines in front of a creative panel, for my design, management and production module. I thought I'd share some of the key features from this project and discuss the creative process behind them.
In these branding guidelines, I developed a tone of voice, logo, typography, merchandise products and launch concept for the business. Prior to working on this project, I have never created brand guidelines of any form. Therefore in this sense the brief really challenged me. The guidelines themselves had to be easy to navigate and follow, therefore I opted for a simple layout design. They needed to communicate the businesses purpose and convey strong brand message.
For me, branding is typically outside of my deign comfort zone, However I really enjoyed working on this project because it allowed me to see branding through a new light. I was able to put my own illustrated twist onto the designs and products. Because one of the main features of the brand was creating original and unique artwork, illustration naturally become a key part of the brand’s message. I wanted to create bold and eye catching designs which celebrated people’s personal connections to music. My favourite part of this project, was creating these illustrated vinyl sleeve covers. I had to adapt my illustration style to fit the sophisticated feel to the brand.
Here's what my finished brand guidelines look like:

Another key feature to these guidelines was the business launch, where I had to create a made up promotional event to advertise the business. I designed a pop-up event, allowing customers to receive exclusive access to the brand's products and services in person, followed me a special live musical performance. I designed for the event to take place at the Salford's lads club, an iconic building stored which musical history and nostalgia. The venue is best known for it's association with The Smiths, therefore I pretended to organise a special live performance by Morrissey. The event in itself celebrated the brands message of bringing people closer together through the bond of music.

Overall I've really enjoyed working on this project, as I managed to create pieces which I'm proud to showcase in my end of year portfolio.
